Cushing Martin Photo Exhibit

The art show in Cushing Martin this month is a collection of photographs. It is a compilation of three different artists which, through the photos create a narrative with fictional characters. It is interesting how the three different artists, which three distinctive styles combined their art to make one show. One artist in particular, RI Anderson was interesting because of the dead body motive she had going on. Apparently she always took pictures of herself in the same black dress in different poses, but always dead. While this is in fact morbid and a bit creepy, I think it is intriguing. People are always intrigued by death, and her photos seemed to dramatize death by creating stories through the photographs. One in particular that I liked was "Banks Street, Cambridge, MA." First of all the non literal decapitation of the female character detached any sense of who that person was. In all of her photos she seemed to prevent the audience from seeing the dead person's face. Also, I like the placement of a man's feet on the top of the frame, it works to create a story in the audience's mind. I alludes to some scandalous murder, by an ex husband, or something of the like.
